Independent Report on Future Global Climate Deal
The economist Nicholas Stern has released a report
that seeks to form the basis for future discussions of climate change. The
stated purpose of the report is "to to put forward a coherent set of
proposals on global policy that satisfy three basic principles: Effectiveness
it must lead to cuts in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on the scale
required to keep the risks from climate change at acceptable levels;
Efficiency it must be implemented in the most cost-effective way, with
mitigation being undertaken where it is cheapest; and Equity it must
take account of the fact that it is poor countries that are often hit earliest
and hardest, while rich countries have a particular responsibility for past
emissions."
Lord Stern previously served at HM Treasury, the
World Bank, and the European Bank for Research and Development. This report was
written in preparation for the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 15th Conference of the
Parties in Copenhagen in December 2009.
United Kingdom Moves Forward on Hydrogen Standards
The British Standards Institution, supported by the United Kingdom Hydrogen
Association, will take on an increased role in the development of international
standards for hydrogen technology. The BSI will engage with the
International Organization for Standardization's Technical Committee 197 for
Hydrogen Technologies. This committee's scope is "standardization in the
field of systems and devices for the production, storage, transport, measurement
and use of hydrogen."
